The Métis nation has a very interesting history of how they came to be. They came to be when European men, that were mostly fishermen, traveled to Canada to trade things(mainly fur). When they were in Canada trading they decided to settle down and start families. So they found some Aboriginal wives and got married. Not long after they decided to start families and have kids. Once their kids were all grown up and it was time for them to get married they married other people that had European and Aboriginal parents. This repeated when their kids got married. When they were deciding on a name they chose the name Métis because it meant mixed in french. That is how the Métis nation came to be.
